CONCRETE PILE BREAKERS IN MACKAY WHITSUNDAY REGION, QLD

CONCRETE PILE BREAKERS IN MACKAY WHITSUNDAY REGION, QLD.

Pile breakers dramatically increase productivity and safety when compared to conventional jack-hammer breaking.

The $148 million Forgan Bridge project is a signature project for the department in the Mackay/Whitsunday Region. It is the largest project of its kind undertaken by the region and will reshape a major entrance to the central business district.

This major project for the Department of Main Roads consists of the design and construction of the duplication and replacement of the existing Forgan Bridge in Mackay. The project is a new 4-lane bridge 485m long over the Pioneer River to replace the existing 2-lane bridge, plus 1000m of roadworks and intersection upgrading. The work is being managed to maintain traffic access across the bridge at all times throughout the construction.

Stage 2: Includes demolition of the existing Forgan Bridge about 450m long and constructing another 2 lanes in its place. The Mackay Area Integrated Transport Plan (MAITPlan) 2002-2025 recommended the provision for additional city cross-river capacity through the replacement of the Forgan Bridge with a new four-lane structure.

Taets Pile Breakers Type 314 circular pile breaker was used to break the 400mm diameter concrete piles.

The pilebreakers type 314 and 380 are highly modular systems that are easy to adjust to each pile diameter at site. The breaking will leave the reinforcement intact and guarantees no cracks below cut-off level.

The breaking process is many times faster than conventional breaking and is fully controlled through it’s operation. Handling and maintenance of the pile breaker are very easy and don’t require special skills.
