TRENCHLESS CROSSING
Linear shoring secured the starting pit.
By laying a new underground power line from the central substation to the northern substation, Innsbrucker Kommunalbetriebe AG has closed the inner-city power line network and increased the security of supply in the city area. The scope of the construction work, for which Kraft & Wärme Rohr- und Anlagentechnik GmbH and TEERAG-ASDAG Aktiengesellschaft as subcontractors were commissioned, includes the crossing of Salurner Straße.
Mainly due to the tense traffic situation, which is characterized by a high volume of passenger cars, bus traffic and a streetcar line, the client had decided to install the required empty pipes for the insertion of the 110 kV lines in a trenchless procedure under the busy crossing area.
Contrary to the original planning, the 3.10 meter wide and 7.80 meter long launch pit required to accommodate the drilling equipment was not secured with sheet piles but with the linear shoring system from EMMUNDS & STAUDINGER by terra infrastructure. In addition to economic aspects, a significant technical aspect was decisive for the decision: In contrast to driving the piles, the construction environment is shaken significantly less when installing the linear shoring.
Flexible and economical: For the stability of the launch pit, the contractor used the linear shoring system from e+s.
A sensible alternative
With linear shoring, shoring panels are held in vertically installed rails so that they can slide past each other. Once installed, the result is a stepped shoring system. The decisive design feature of linear shoring is the rigid roller unit. It ensures that the trench width remains the same during installation and removal in every construction phase - a circumstance that ensures smooth and economical construction processes.
Trench sheeting is generally used for head-end shoring of the launch pit. Since the spreaders of the shoring systems may only be loaded longitudinally in compression and tension and not horizontally, so-called head shoring adapters are integrated into the linear shoring system, which, like the roller unit, are guided in the profile of the linear shoring soldiers, can be adjusted in height at any time and are flush with the head-side edge of the shoring system. In this way, the sheet piles can be supported against the cross girders, which are subject to bending stresses.
As planned, the crossing of Salurner Strasse was completed within the scheduled time frame.
