PROTECTION OF PRECIOUS HISTORY WITH THE TERRA STOP LOG SYSTEM.

Oppitzsch, a district of Strehla, a town with a history stretching back 1000 years and buildings dating back to the Middle Ages, is situated on a bend in the Elbe. This district used to be very important, as the most important east-west road crossed the Elbe here. However, the town and its work environment have repeatedly had to contend with the changing forces of the Elbe flooding.

In a major project, a combination of a new earth dam and a strengthening of the protective measures by means of removable stop log elements was implemented here in the hinterland of the Elbe. Twelve aluminium stop log elements were manufactured for a double dike opening with a clear width of 3.60 metres and a damming height of 1.24 metres. They are supported by posts that are cast into reinforced concrete pillars. In the event of flooding, the flood protection barriers, which have a protective height of 0.80 m, are closed with 14 individual stop log gates to the intended flood protection height over a total length of 55 m.

Four aluminium stop log elements are provided for each cap/oil gauge/plug, which are supported in the reinforced concrete pillars. The distance between the concrete pillars is approx. 3.65 metres. All dismountable parts, accessory parts, assembly aids and tools are stored on specially designed pallets in a roll-off container.
