Long-lasting Flood protection - terra Glass Wall System
The authorities also wanted to significantly improve flood protection in the areas of Magdeburg east of the Elbe. In the Turmschanzenstraße area, however, the view of the riverside landscape of the Alte Elbe was to be preserved. For this reason, we erected glass walls there, comprising individual glass elements of different dimensions. The special feature: the glass thicknesses were designed to withstand the different impact loads. Filters with glass thicknesses of up to 76 millimeters are used for the very high loads on the current side; the washers are considerably thinner on the side away from the current. This measure allowed a particularly economical overall solution to be achieved. Another highlight of the flood protection system is our manually operated aluminum folding panel, which ensures access to the shore area. It is executed in the measures 3.00 x 0.80 meters with corrugated sheet metal. Thus, for example, it offers small transporters slip protection when driving on. Also noteworthy is the purely mechanical kinematics – current or machinery are thus not required. The construction and dismantling can be done by two people.
