SEALING SYSTEMS.
Our steel sheet pile walls have proven themselves in countless construction projects – both in terms of their static and sealing function. They are used with great success in construction pits and in water and harbour engineering. They are also used in landfill construction, Flood protection systems and in the remediation of contaminated sites. Depending on the degree of impermeability required, different sealing systems are available.
SEALANTS.
SEALANTS.
Our terra sealant is resistant to the typical substances and liquids found in landfills and contaminated sites. It comprises two sealing lips, making it doubly secure. Sealant is driven into the sheet pile clutches at the factory. It comprises a mechanically profiled seal in the threading clutch and, in addition, an injected seal in the centre clutch of double sheet piles, which adapts perfectly to the clutch gap. A primer ensures reliable adhesion.

The sealing in the threading interlock is designed as a compression seal. When the profile is driven into the ground, restoring forces are activated in the sealing material, which seal the interlock gap in the desired range. The arrangement of the two sealing lips in the lock ensures that the sealing system is doubly secure. To facilitate threading, the driving lock into which the next profile with a profiled seal is threaded is preformed like a wedge. Before execution of work, the direction of driving must be determined and adhered to.
CASTLE FILLED WITH A BITUMINOUS MATERIAL.
CASTLE FILLED WITH A BITUMINOUS MATERIAL.
The water permeability of the interlocks can be significantly reduced by using the bituminous material system SIRO 88. It can be applied both in the factory and on site.

Hot bitumen casting has proven to be the best solution for vibratory hammers. In the case of factory prefabrication, the system comprises a pasty interlock filling in the drive-in interlock and casting in the factory-assembled centre interlock. Since the material adheres well to the steel surface, no pre-treatment of the interlocks with primers is required. Test certificates on the environmental compatibility of the interlock fillings are available.
OTHER SEALING METHODS.
The following additional sealing methods are available for interlocks that need to be sealed after the sheet pile wall has been installed:

At interlock joints where the sealing requirements are less stringent, the interlocks can be subsequently sealed using wooden wedges (swelling effect), rubber or plastic cords, for example.
If complete watertightness is required, the only option is to weld the interlocks. As a rule, this only applies to the threaded interlocks, since the interlocks that have been pulled together at the factory can already be welded before installation. Important: Welding of the joints is only possible if the joints are dry and properly cleaned. The sealing seams must be arranged on the side to which the sole of the later structure will be connected. Water-bearing joints can be covered, for example, with a flat or profiled steel that is welded to the sheet pile wall with two fillet welds.
