DRAINAGE AND DRAINAGE OF THE A7

DRAINAGE - ALL REQUIREMENTS MASTERED.
The dewatering and drainage of the A7 in the Flensburg direction had to be renewed over a length of almost 2 kilometres. Drainage pipes along the unusually low-lying carriageway had become leaky and drainage lines had become clogged. The result: the subsoil had been washed out, causing bumps in the road surface that posed a particular danger for heavy goods traffic.
The Schleswig-Holstein State Office for Road Construction and Traffic therefore decided to carry out remedial works on the pipes. The call for tenders included a row of special requirements for the shoring, which had to meet very high static requirements. To ensure the safety of the construction pit, Groth & Co. was commissioned with the execution and therefore relied on the stepped Linear shoring from E+S, a product brand of terra infrastructure. An extremely stable shoring was required.
The force-locked system proved to be a particularly good choice with regard to the safety of the excavation pit in the area of a bridge abutment. In the construction phase in question, the entire load transfer took place via the shoring.
Among other things, the call for tenders required a force-locked connection, which was important because a bridge structure with a shallow foundation was located in the construction area. With E+S linear shoring, the shoring plates are not threaded into the shoring supports from on top, but swung in from the side. This was a decisive advantage for the safety of the excavation pit in the bridge area.
Compared to other systems, this procedure is not only faster but also less dangerous. A 3-metre wide and 7-metre deep pit had to be secured for laying the pipes. Modules of 4 metres in length were used on the ‘open track’. In the area of the bridge, the distance between the shoring supports was slightly reduced for static reasons. Filtering cartridges of 3 metres in length were used here.
The shoring system passed the test with flying colours at the motorway site in Schleswig-Holstein, and everyone involved was satisfied with the way the work was completed on schedule.
