Mobile flood protection system - terra stop log system
EL ZAGAL FLOODWALL, FARGO, NORTH DAKOTA, USA
The city of Fargo is located on the Red River, which repeatedly flooded existing flood defences and roads during the winter months. Climate change and the resulting adaptation of flood protection goals made it necessary to reinforce all dikes and ensure the safety of the roads that crossed them.
The particular challenge for us was that this was our very first project in the USA. To enter the market, we first had to convince the United States Corps of Army Engineers (USCAE) of the merits of our system. The second step was to obtain approval from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and acceptance under the Buy American Act. After about nine months, everything was settled and we were able to start implementation.
The road crossings are now secured with mobile protection systems from our company. In El Zagal, a mobile flood protection system with a length of approx. 20 metres and a protection height of 1.5 metres is used when there is a risk of flooding. The entire system was manufactured in Germany and transported in a container to Chicago. From there, our customer took over.
